空港セキュリティの新たな試みについての記事について話し合いました。

We read an article about a new form of airport security:

In Europe, airports are planning to introduce lie detector

machines into airport security. This means that on top of

the usual security checkpoints that you usually pass through, you

will also have to undergo a lie detector test. What do you think about

this? Do you think you could pass it?

With my student, we discussed all of the existing types of security

you can find at airports, as well as talking about if we have ever

experienced trouble with airport security while traveling. And what

about you? Do you think airport security is necessary?

Or is this lie detector just another problem to stress about?

イタリアとスペイン、日本での住宅やアパートの外装と内装用語について話し合いました。

生徒さんは上記の仕事関係でイタリア・スペインに出張が多い方です。

we studied about houses and apartments, and how to describe exterior

and interior details. As my student often takes business trips to Italy

and Spain, we compared and contrasted Italian & Spanish houses to

Japanese houses--making use of vocabulary and grammar to describe things clearly.

What about your house or apartment? Does your room have a view?

今回は、人として素敵な人は貧しい人が多いと言われていることついて話し合いました。

First of all, I want to ask them a question: Do you think you are a

nice person?

Well, today in one of my classes, we read an article called:

"Nicer People are Poorer, Says Study."

What is your first impression of this title? If you think you are a nice person,

do you feel this title is accurate for your life? Does that mean that rude and

selfish people are richer? Hmm . . .

In the article, the researchers said that nice people are more relaxed with

money--not worrying about saving money, and more carefree with managing

their money. On top of this,

kind people are simply more giving in general--donating to charities and lending

cash tofriends. But with these details considered, is it a bad thing to be

nice and poorer?

今回はイノベーション(革新)について話し合いました。

We continued discussing innovation. We discussed what were

some revolutionary innovations and inventions in the 20th century.

We came up with the invention of the "World Wide Web" also known

as the "internet" as the most useful and most important invention

in the 20th century.

We listened to work conversations focusing on asking questions that ask for

innovative ideas and to listen for adjectives that describe the how innovative

certain categories are, such as jobs, companies, technologies, and ideas.

To end the lesson, we then discussed our company's or job's innovative

characteristics.

Some examples are:

"My company's system is very original."

"How is your company's system original ?

"It's original because we developed our own system about one year ago.

It's very difficult to use."

今回は成功、成果や失敗することについて話し合いました。

On Thursday, we continued our discussion about success, achievements,

and failures. We listened to conversations about an amazing triumph and

a total flop. We matched adjectives with nouns to expand our vocabulary

on talking about success in the work place.

Some examples are a total breakthrough, a real disaster, a complete

waste of time, and a total flop. We practiced using them in sentences when talking

about real life work experiences and scenarios.

今回はスナップチャットでフィルターをかけた顔がもたらす問題について意見交換をしました。

Hello everyone, this is Jordan here again.

Today in one of my private classes, we read an article called "People Get

Surgery to Look like Snapchat filters." If you are familiar with Snapchat

and other social networking services, you know that they allow you to take selfies

with various fun filters that alter your face in various ways.

But apparently some people are becoming 'addicted' to these filtersso much so

that they are trying to get cosmetic surgery to look like their filtered selfies!

Can you imagine?

Many cosmetic surgeons are reporting that clients are coming into their clinics

requesting such operations. But these surgeons are telling these clients that some of

their requests are not physically possible . . . and they say that these people have

confused fantasy with reality.

And I think that's a shame. These people need a self-esteem boost!

仕事のパフォーマンスについて議論を行いました。

We focused on "performance". We started out with discussing

our work day activities and current events. We then started doing

book work and learning phrases on evaluating performance of other

co-workers and ourselves. We practiced common phrases such as,

"My strengths are (problem solving), my weaknesses are (communicating),

our team's goal is to (increase production output), etc. After looking over and

practicing the phrases, we started acting out a performance review meeting by

a sking questions from an evaluation form and answering using the phrases

we learned in the lesson.
